Not too long ago, I was talking to one of my Korean friends who has been intensely studying English for a while now. He told me that when he needs to use the dictionary to look up a word, he always uses the English dictionary--never the English/Korean dictionary. It is really hard to use a dictionary that only contains words from the language you're studying, so his approach inspired me. These days, whenever I take notes from grammar websites or Korean lectures, I try to use only Korean words (and some very very very basic 한자) in my notebook. It's definitely more difficult, but I feel like I learn more this way. Have you guys tried it? What do you think?

Using the English/English dictionary when looking up the words is going to be very demanding. I've tried it several times before but it was too difficult to understand when it comes with other unknown words :( But I know it would be very very useful. Since I know many words and expressions now, I might as well try it again.

답글삭제Yes, I do agree that it is difficult to use only your target language when studying, but I believe that it is the best way. When you first learned Korean as a child, you learned by hearing/reading/speaking only in Korean. I suppose since you learned Korean well that way, that learning English by a similar method would work best.
Ah...to answer your question: You could say "Actually, I've been taking notes using almost ALL English." When using the word "almost (거의)," you must include a word before the noun in order to sound natural.

Aw, thank you Jinuk! When I first started learning Korean, I didn't know how to type 한글 using the computer keyboard, so I got a lot of handwriting practice :)
