번역을 같이 해볼까요?

I’m always trying to find new ways to study Korean. Unless you enjoy constantly practicing grammar and vocabulary, studying can get old. Therefore, when time allows, I will find interesting English articles online and translate them into Korean. As you know, this is not easy, but it is very helpful when studying a foreign language. First, it helps you practice using any grammar that you’ve learned. Second, it forces you to use vocabulary that you may not use in everyday conversation. And third, it can be fun! 

As I’ve already mentioned, translating text is not easy and so it takes a lot of time. For that reason, I only translated a small portion of the article. Please forgive me if there are too many mistakes! But anyway, the content is interesting and the grammar seems useful. Can we look at it together and practice language?

저는 한국어를 공부하기 위해 새로운 방법을 항상 찾으려고 노력해요. 문법과 어휘를 변함없이 공부하는 것을 좋아하는 이상, 공부하기가 좀 지루하질 수 있어요. 그래서 여가 시간이 있을 때 저는 인터넷에서 나오는 영어로 된 글을 찾아서 한국어로 번역을 해요. 아시다시피 이것은 쉬는 일이 아니지만 외국어를 공부하는 중에 유용해요. 첫번째, 번역하기 때문에 이미 배웠던 문법을 복습할 수 있어요. 두번째, 번역하기가 일상적인 대화에 자주 나오지 않은 단어를 쓰게 해요. 셋번째, 재미있을 수 있어요!

이미 말했던 것처럼 글을 번역하는 것이 쉽지 않은 일뿐만 아니라 오래 걸려요. 그 이유때문에 작은 부분만 번역을 했어요. 실수가 많이 나오면 좀 이해해주세요. 아무튼 내용도 재미있고 문법도 유용해서 같이 자세히 보고 언어를 연습할까요? ^^   

Puppy Love 

Here’s a familiar story. You’re sitting at the dinner table with a furry, four-legged friend scratching at your feet. You know you shouldn’t give dogs human food, but when you look down, those cute puppy eyes are almost impossible to resist.

여기는 익숙한 이야기이다. 당신은 발을 할퀴하는 4다리를 가지고 있는 털이 많은 친구와 식탁에 앉고 있다. 당신은 개들한테 인간이 먹는 음식을 주면 안 되는 사실을 알고 있지만 밑으로 볼 때 거부할 수가 없고 귀여운 강아지 눈들이 바로 있다.  

What is it about a dog’s adoring gaze that makes it so charming? A new study by Japanese scientist Miho Nagasawa seems to have found the answer, and it has to do with something called the cuddle chemical.

개의 흠모하는 눈길은 왜 이렇게 매력적일까? 일본 과학자의 새롭게 나오는 미호 나가사와라는 연구는 밝힐 것 같고 cuddle chemical에 관한 것이다.  

The cuddle chemical has another, more scientific name: oxytocin. Oxytocin is a substance in the blood that encourages bonding. Levels of oxytocin increase, for example, when a mother feeds her newborn baby. According to Nagasawa’s study, levels of oxytocin can also go up when we look deeply into the eyes of a dog.   

Cuddle Chemical의 더 과학적인 이름은 옥시토신이라고 한다. 옥시토신은 피에 나오는 유대감을 하게 하는 것이다. 예를 들자면 엄머니는 갓난아이를 먹일 때는 옥시토신 수준이 늘다. 나가사와의 연구에 의하면 개의 눈을 쳐다볼 때도 옥시토신 수준이 늘다.
