Expression of the day

I'm a huge fan of Michael's videos on podcast/Youtube.
I'd like to summarize some episodes of 'Expression of the day' from today.
These videos are especially useful for Korean like me.
Here we go~!

# It’s up to you : 니가 (결)정해. (선택권 일임)
A: Wanna grab a bite to eat later? 있다가 뭐 좀 먹을래?
B: Cool~ what do you wanna eat? 좋지~ 뭐 먹을까?
A: Anything. It’s up to you. 아무거나. 니가 정해.
무생물에 안쓴다!  It’s up to the weather. (X)
부정문 It’s not up to you.
# The train is pulling into the station
  1. 기차가 역으로 들어오고 있다.
  2. The train is pulling out of the station 기차가 역을 빠져나가고 있다.
  3. I’m getting on the train right now. (기차에 올라타고 있다.)
  • I’m taking the train. 기차로 간다는 말 (수단)
# Tell the difference
  • Can you tell(distinguish) the difference between Koreans and Chinese people? 한국인과 중국인 구별할 줄 알아요?
  • Can you tell the difference between movies shot on film and those shot digitally?
  • I can’t really tell the difference between expensive coffee and the cheap stuff.
# MUST / 아쉽다
  • MUST 진짜 용법 : You must be so disappointed. (상대 짐작)
  • must : 문어체 / have to : 구어체

  • That’s a shame. (부끄러움이나 망신이 아닌 '아쉬움')
아쉬운 짧은 여행에 관해
so many things to see
It’s such a shame he had to leave so soon
It’s a real shame he had to leave
It’s a shame you can’t stay in Korea longer
There’s still so much to see
It’s a shame we missed the expo.(your presentation).

It’s a shame I never told my father how much I cared about him.
(아버지를 얼마나 사랑했는지 말하지 못한 게 참으로 아쉽다)

It’s a shame we never got the chance to work together.
(같이 일해보지 못해서 너무 아쉽다.)
# such / so (강조)
He’s such a nice guy.
He’s so nice.
She’s such an intelligent women.
She’s so intelligent.
This place is so wonderful.
This is such a wonderful place.
That work was so touching.
That was such a touching work.
The trip we had was so amazing.
We had such an amazing trip.
He’s so rich. The weather is so lovely!
