Some Important Tips

I've got some important tips from Aaron at PhraseMix.com
  1. You need to study every day, even if it's just a little. 매일 공부해야 한다. 비록 조금이라도.
  2. You need to review what you've learned. 배운 걸 복습해야 한다.
  3. You shouldn't learn vocabulary lists and grammar rules. Instead, you should memorize natural sentences. 단어목록과 문법규칙을 배우지 말라. 대신, 자연스러운 문장을 외워야 한다.
  4. You need a wide variety of sentences, and they need to be natural. 다양한 문장들이 필요하다. 자연스러운 문장들 말이다.
  5. You can memorize sentences faster by listening to them, having an emotional connection to them, and repeating them piece by piece. 듣기, 감정과 연관짓기(?), 반복숙달을 통해 문장들을 더 빨리 외울 수 있다.
  6. You should listen carefully to the sounds of English sentences, not just the words. 영어 문장의 소리를 주의깊게 들어야 한다, 단어가 아니라 말이다.
Well.. for me, I think generally his insights are so true. But as he mentioned in his original article, 3 is quite controversial. Some students or even some teachers might not agree with this.
So, what do you think?

I'm going to America!

These days I'm a little nervous about preparing the big travel.
I will probably be in Georgia on September 20.
And I supposed to get the ball rolling on my brand new job on October 1.
I'm so hyper but worried about everything.
One of the most worrying things is the Visa interview at the American Embassy.
I think I have to prepare the answers to the expected questions.
After the interview I could be able to get on the airplane.
And I should probably consider getting a new car and a new apartment.
Yeah, I got so many things to solve! I need help~~

The testing period is over! From now on, I’ll start studying Korean again. These days, I’m looking to practice listening, so I’ve been searching how to improve my listening skills on the Internet. Not long ago, while searching online, I found something cool: “If you want to improve your listening skills, try reading aloud quickly.

The article said that if you read aloud quickly, you will be able to get used to people who speak quickly. Perhaps the reason why foreign language learners can’t understand natives who speak quickly is because they have never tried this method? I want to give it a shot, but I’m not sure how effective it is. Can you really improve your listening skills with this method? What do you guys think?

How to use 'i.e.' vs 'e.g.'

source : How to Use "i.e." Versus "e.g." (wikiHow)

늘 궁금해서 정리 한 번 하려고 했었는데 드디어 하네요.
i.e. 와 e.g. 의 차이점! 미묘한 차이가 있네요.
미국사람도 실수하기 쉽다고 하니 알만하죠? ㅋ
한 번 보입시다.

i.e. 와 e.g. 의 구별(distinguishing)

  1. 라틴어 약자
    • i.e. => id est (= that is)
    • e.g. => exempli gratia (= for the sake of example)
  2. 연상법(associate)
    • i.e. => "in essence"
    • e.g. => "example given"
  3. 그래도 어려우면 더 기억하기 쉬운 방법으로 (mnemonic devices)
    • i.e. => "I explain"
    • e.g. => "egg sample" (발음 해보삼)

When to use?

  1. i.e. => 앞 문장을 보충 설명할 때 (앞 문장 == 부가설명)
    • I went to my least favourite place (i.e., the dentist)
    • 내가 젤 싫어하는 곳, 치과엘 갔다. (싫어하는 곳 == 치과)
  2. e.g. => 예를 열거할 때 (앞 문장 !=  부가설명)
    • Buy some vegetables, e.g., carrots.
    • 채소 좀 사와. 당근같은 거. (채소 != 당근)

do not have 와 have not

공부할 때마다 헷갈려서 다시 정리를 해볼게요.

1. be 동사 + not

My name is not Mike.
I am not student.

2. do + not + 일반 동사

I do not work.
We do not know how to speak English.

3. do + not + 일반 동사 (have : 가지다, 먹다 등)

I do not have a car.
I do not have lunch.

4. 완료 시제 + not

I have not worked here.
I have not washed my car today.

문법 공부를 시작하고 나니 영어가 새롭게 보이기 시작했어요. :D

Meet up

Today is a day to meet foreigners at offline.
YouSung and I did have dinner after work.
That picture is our dinner.

After dinner, we expect and went to the meeting place.
It's 1 hour left until the appointed time.
We waited for the appointed time while studying English.

Some Koreans have arrived.
It's past the appointed time, but foreigners haven't come yet.
There are many Koreans only. (Around 25 people)
And Foreigners have arrived. (Around 3 people)

25:3
We were in despair then.
We didn't have a chance to talk with them.
I saw the Koreans who want to talk with foreigner.
I felt sad looking at them. (Only my opinion!)

After 1 hour, we went out from there.
We sighed.
We went into a little huff.
I'll go home and do a lot of studying English.
I'm burning!
Whoops~

It's been so long, guys~

Hey~ what's up guys? What have you been up to?
For me, it's time to work ~! ㅠㅜ
Lately I got a new job as a freelancer(for the first time in my life).
Actually I supposed to work with JinUk for this project!!
Today was the second day of the work.
He and I had no work to do so far.
So we were just taking a lot of break time. Yah!
Frankly speaking, it was a little bit boring.
Take a look at the picture of our work place.

I'm taking a picture of JinUk and the other coworker.
P.S. : Why don't you tell us about your life? Please?

The Note-Taking Challenge!

Hello everyone!

Not too long ago, I was talking to one of my Korean friends who has been intensely studying English for a while now. He told me that when he needs to use the dictionary to look up a word, he always uses the English dictionary--never the English/Korean dictionary. It is really hard to use a dictionary that only contains words from the language you're studying, so his approach inspired me. These days, whenever I take notes from grammar websites or Korean lectures, I try to use only Korean words (and some very very very basic 한자) in my notebook. It's definitely more difficult, but I feel like I learn more this way. Have you guys tried it? What do you think?

I don't know why my pictures always come out side-ways. One of these days, I'll become tech-savvy and learn how to use my iPhone camera :)

Very small computer

I think I introduce a fun product.
It's a very small computer.
Its price is cheaper.
The United Kingdom's some group has developed the product.
It has been developed for supply to the children of the poorest countries.
I had to order it yesterday, received it today.
YouSung and I will develop a computer program using it.
It will be a fun experience for us.
Its name is the Raspberry Pi.
Cute name!
