Expression of the day (#5 ~ #10)

This is 2nd post concerning the '오늘의 표현'.
Let's get started!~ 

#5. 멘붕
He ran the red light 빨간 불(신호)에 지나갔다
mental breakdown : 멘(탈)붕(괴)
I think I'm going to have a mental breakdown. 나 멘붕 올 거 같아.
It looks like she's having a mental breakdown. 그녀 멘붕 올 듯.

#6. He's one of my best friends
Jeonju is one of my favorite city. (X)
Jeonju is one of my favorite cities. (O)
Kimchi is one of my favorite foods. 김치는 내가 좋아하는 음식 중 하나다.
Adele is one of my favorite singers.

#7. 아침형 인간 / 저녁형 인간
It seems like this expression came from English language. 이 표현은 영어에서 온 것 같다.
I'm a morning(night) person. 나는 아침형(저녁형) 인간이다.
I've always been a morning person. 난 늘 아침형 인간이었다.
I have trouble waking up in the morning. 아침에 일어나는 게 힘들다.

#8. I have company
Michael wanted to brag about his new T-shirt.
마이클은 새 티셔츠를 자랑하고 싶어했다. ㅋㅋ
It's a shame 아쉽다
It was a waste 아깝다

Do you have a company? 회사가 있느냐?
Do you have company? 일행이 있습니까?
I have 2 companies. (회사)

I like dogs (애완견) / I like dog (개고기) -.-;;;

party (일행) != a party (파티)
How many people in your party? 일행 몇 명인가요?

Do you have company or you traveling alone?
일행 있으세요, 아니면 혼자 여행 오셨어요?

#9. ~치고는
YBM was Michael's old stomping grounds. (YBM은 한때 마이클의 주 활동무대였다)

엎드려 절받기 Fishing for compliments

He was fishing for compliments about his T-shirt.
마이클은 티셔츠에 대해서 칭찬 받고 싶어했다. ㅋ

praise (written 문어체) / compliment (spoken 구어체)

~ 치고는 (제한적 칭찬) qualified complments

For an American(For someone from the US), Michael speaks Korean very well.
미국인 치고는, 마이클은 한국말을 정말 잘한다.

For an elementary schooler, his vocabulary is amazing.
초등학생 치고는, 그 아이의 어휘력은 놀랍다.


#10. 내성적인 성격이에요.
Michael was crossing the Han river.

외향적인 사람 / 내성적인 사람

He's an extrovert. 그는 외향적이다.
I consider myself (to be) an extrovert.

He's very outgoing. (sociable) 그는 매우 사교적이다.

He's extroverted. 그는 외향적이다.
He's introverted. 그는 내성적이다.
He's an introvert.

Despite his profession, as a Youtube broadcaster, Michael consider himself an introvert.
유투브 방송인으로서의 직업에도 불구하고, 마이클은 스스로 내성적이라 생각한다.
